We believe that agriculture is an activity of study and artistry, rather than a set of doctrines to follow.
Agricultural pioneer Lady Eve Balfour once said, "I am sure that the techniques of organic farming cannot be imprisoned in a rigid set of rules. They depend essentially on the attitude of the farmer. Without a positive and ecological approach, it is not possible to farm organically."
At Jorgensen Farms, we believe that agriculture is an activity of study and artistry, rather than a set of doctrines to follow.
We are thoughtful and careful in our approach to farming. We understand the historical and current context in which our land thrives—its rich, loamy forest floor with years of decomposing leaves; the benefits of grazing ruminants on this, some of the most fertile soil in the world. We understand this, and so we practice contextualized methods of caring for our land. We use generous amounts of mineral-rich leaf compost to loosen our natural clay soils. We use a rotation of vegetables, deep-rooted cover crops, and livestock to increase the vigor of our plants and animals.
As artists of the field, we believe in crafting an agricultural experience of clarity and simplicity. We believe our produce and meat—honest and real food—speaks for itself. When people witness the fruits of our labor, they taste and feel the difference.
